Government Vice President and Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos paid an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran. He met on Saturday (15.03) with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif. The meeting focused on the political relations between the two countries as well as trade and economic cooperation. The two officials further discussed the issues of maritime zones, international drug trade, organized crime, and human trafficking.

Venizelos and Zarif considered the potential for cooperation, particularly in the sectors of energy, transport and shipping, agricultural products, and the food and pharmaceutical industries. The Greek minister also briefed his counterpart on the Cyprus issue and the Greek - Turkish relations.

Referring to Iran’s nuclear programme, Venizelos noted that "for us the interim agreement is very important" adding that "now our commitment, our vision and our determination is to complete the negotiations in order to reach a total agreement towards the final solution of the problem and the lifting of sanctions."

Venizelos was further received by the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rouhani and other officials.
