  • Marina Abramović @ Onassis Cultural Centre
As part of the Cycle Transitions 1.Balkans: Contemporary Art Festival of the Independent Balkan Scene, acclaimed artist Marina Abramovic, who brought the concept of performance to its limits, is coming to the Onassis Cultural Centre for a discussion with Zvonimir Dobrović on method and performance practice. Her method is to educate viewers on the skills needed to participate and attend a long-lasting performance, stemming from the belief that everyone (regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, physical ability etc.) can benefit from being more actively present at any time. The discussion will be live-stream from www.sgt.gr on March 7, at 19:00 in Greek and English.

E X H I B I T I O N S
  • Greek kingdoms of Bactria and India through their Coins
The exhibition "The Greek Kingdoms of Bactria and India" will be held at the Numismatic Museum, from March 11. The exhibition presents coin collections with the most important coins issued by the Kingdoms of Bactria and India, which flourished during the Hellenistic period, approximately a century after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC, covering parts of current-day India and Afghanistan. Coins have preserved Greek writing, symbols and images that survived in the depths of Asia along with elements from local communities.

  • Konstantinos Parthenis @ Theocharacis Foundation
An exhibition with works of Kostis Parthenis one of the most important Greek painters of the last two centuries, will be held at the Theocharakis Foundation until June 1. Parthenis, has managed to mingle modern aesthetics with Modern Greek perception of painting. As a teacher at the Fine Arts School, he decisively influenced the shaping of the Generation of the ‘30s that combined Hellenism with contemporary aesthetic expressions. The exhibition is realized in collaboration with the National Art Gallery-Alexander Soutzos Museum.

  • Amanes @ Peran Musical Scene
A self-taught singer of amanes, Solon Lekkas, will sing original amanes and immortal songs from the island of Lesvos and Asia Minor, tonight and tomorrow, at Peran musical scene. According to Solon Lekkas "The song can be taught, but not amanes," which is full of chirrup and aman and the accompanying orchestra is never missing violin, zither and lute.

  • Melina Mercouri Tribute @ Benaki Museum
A film tribute to Melina Mercouri will be held at the Benaki Museum, as a side event to the exhibition Melina Mercouri Street. The films Never on Sunday, A Dream Passion, Phaedra, The Rehearsal will be screened on Sunday, March 9. Screenings will be also held in April.
