The "Dormition of the Virgin," one of the early paintings by Domenikos Theotokopoulos a.k.a El Greco, will travel from the island of Syros to the Santa Cruz Museum in Toledo to be displayed in the exhibition "The Greek of Toledo," running from March 14 to June 14, to celebrate the 'El Greco Year' in both Greece and Spain.

The painting dates before 1567 and represents El Greco’s Cretan period, "demonstrating the artist's origins and training in the traditions of post-Byzantine painting." It will be returned to the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin on the island of Syros on April 14, in time for the Easter holiday on April 20.

It is noted that the Greek Central Archaeological Council has announced its decision (22.01) to temporarily lend three other El Greco paintings to Toledo's Santa Cruz Museum in Spain for an exhibition dedicated to the famous painter.
