
On the occasion of the
Greek presidency of the European Union, the
Nouvel Observateur magazine - in association with the Greek daily
Kathimerini, as well as the New York Times,
Le Soir,
Euronews, the
Franco-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and the
French Institute of Greece - will hold a major conference at the Megaron Athens Concert Hall on February 6 -7, titled “
Go for Democracy,” just a few months ahead of the European Parliament elections.
Politicians, intellectuals and leading experts will discuss hot issues such as the anti-European discourse, populism, abstention from the European elections, legitimacy of the European institutions, sovereignty and federalism. For such a forum there is no better place than Greece, the country that invented democracy and is currently at the heart of the European contradictions.
Prime Minister of Greece Antonis Samaras, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Evangelos Venizlos, along with former President of France ValĂ©ry Giscard d’Estaing, former President of the European Commission, Jacques Delors, Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament and many more will be participating.
