  • Conference on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region
Α special event on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic - Ionian Region (EUSAIR) is taking place in Athens on February 6-7, 2014, jointly organised by the European Commission and the Hellenic Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Building on the experience gained in the macro-regional strategies for the Baltic Sea Region and the Danube Region, and following a request from the European Council, the European Commission and the participating countries are now proceeding to draw up an EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region. The new Strategy will integrate the Maritime Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, adopted by the Commission on November 30, 2012.

This meeting, which brings together various stakeholders - professional associations, universities and research institutions, civil society organizations - from 8 participating countries, will mark the conclusion of consultations with stakeholders on the four pillars of the EUSAIR. Following this event, the Commission will draft a communication on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, as well as an action plan.

  • High-Level Working Group on Gender Mainstreaming
A high-level meeting is taking place at the Zappeion Megaron in Athens on February 6-7 on Gender Mainstreaming. It is organized every semester by the Presidency of the Council of the EU with the participation of the governmental authorities in charge of gender equality in the 28 Member States, the European Commission, the Secretariat of the Council and the European Institute for Gender Equality. The aim of the meeting is the coordination of actions of the Trio Presidency in the field of equality between women and men in the European Union.
