Bilateral issues and the ongoing Middle East crisis dominated in the discussion between the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias and visiting Interim Egyptian President Adly Mansour, on January 20. Papoulias confirmed Greece's support to Egypt in this transitional period and briefed the interim Egyptian President on the Greek EU Presidency priorities, particularly on issues concerning the management of the EU maritime borders; he also referred to a pending bilateral agreement on the delimitation of the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). He further noted that the Cyprus issue is a top priority for Greek foreign policy.Both presidents underlined the high level of bilateral transactions and Greek investments in Egypt, while they also discussed cooperation on tourism sector.
The Egyptian president underlined Greece's important role in the Middle East and referring on the crisis in Syria he supported a political solution in the context of the Geneva Agreement.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras also received Mansour at the Maximos Mansion. The two leaders discussed a range of issues concerning both countries.
