The "Koutroulou Magoula Archaeology and Archaeological Ethnography Project" in Central Greece ranks among the top ten archaeological discoveries for 2013, according to on-line archaeological magazine Heritage Daily. Archaeologists have unearthed more than 300 clay prehistoric male and female figurines, including several hybrid human-bird figures that “should be able to shed light on how Neolithic people interpreted the human body, their own gender and social identity and experience,” according to Professor Yannis Hamilakis, Co-Director of the Koutroulou Magoula Archaeology and Archaeological Ethnography project.

This project is a collaborative effort between the Greek Ministry of Culture, the British School at Athens and the University of Southampton and the project team will carry out two study seasons in 2013 and 2014.
