The Eurogroup approved yesterday €1 billion aid to Greece. According to an EFSF announcement, "the disbursement of the €500 million to Greece will take place in the course of this week," while at the same time, the European Stability Mechanism (ESM) will make available the remaining amount of €500 million. With the disbursement approved yesterday, the total amount of aid to Greece from the EFSF amounts to 133.6 billion euros, with another 10.2 billion euros in aid remaining to be disbursed.

In his statement, Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem expressed satisfaction and noted that his confidence that "the Greek authorities will swiftly conclude their discussions with the Troika institutions in order to allow for a completion of the ongoing review of the country's economic adjustment programme." Following the disbursement, Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras said that: "A tough phase for Greece has ended and added that the prior actions had been "unprecedented," noting that excellent cooperation with all the involved ministries had played a crucial role in the process.
