Stefanos Daskalakis: People exhibition will run at the Benaki Museum from December 4 to January 19.

Nearly 31 portraits in oils by internationally renowned painter Stefanos Daskalakis, dating from the start of the twenty-first century to the present day, are exhibited together for the first time at the Benaki Museum.

The portraits, mainly full-length representations, reveal not only the artist’s compulsive accuracy in representation, but also how he encounters, in the tangible reality of what he has before him, a parallel, internal reality.

Heedless of trends and fashions, Daskalakis remained true to Alberti’s axiom: "the painter has nothing to do with things that are not visible", notes Marina Lambraki-Plaka, Director of the National Gallery, adding that the "uncompromisingly truthful the gaze of Daskalakis is not inhuman at all".
