- FM in Romania, Croatia
Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos carried out a one-day official visit to Bucharest, on April 4, where he had talks with Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta and his Romanian counterpart Titus Corlatean. At a press conference, following their meeting, Avramopoulos said that he had discussed with the Romanian FM issues of bilateral cooperation and ways to further promote the already excellent relations in the political, economic and cultural sectors.
Regional and European issues of mutual concern, including the Euroatlantic integration of the Western Balkans, were also discussed.
In Croatia, the FM met with his counterpart Vesna Pusic, with whom he delved on relations in the wider region and the importance of improving them, bilateral relations including the Adriatic-Ionian motorway, and cooperation in culture, tourism and shipping. Croatia’s FM Pusic also raised the issue of the gas pipeline (TAP) from Azerbaijan through Greece and Albania to Italy and its possible extension to Croatia, a request that Avramopoulos said Greece would endorse, as this can benefit the whole region.
Regional and European issues of mutual concern, including the Euroatlantic integration of the Western Balkans, were also discussed.
He also expressed his belief that while decisions on which of the two projects would go ahead – the TAP or the Nabucco pipeline- are to be made in June, the TAP will come out the winner.
