Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is heading to Brussels today to attend a two-day European Council, which will discuss Europe’s economic outlook in order to set policy orientations. The European leaders will conclude the first phase of the 2013 European Semester -an EU level policy coordination tool which is part of a broader EU aim to strengthen economic governance- and will provide guidance to member states on the 2013 Stability and Convergence programmes, and on the implementation of Europe 2020 "flagship initiatives."

Before the Spring European Council, a Tripartite Social Summit will take place focusing on youth unemployment, in the presence of the European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and representatives of the three countries -Ireland, Lithuania, Greece- that will hold the rotating EU Presidency in the next 18 months.
