- Nikos Kazantzakis Symposium: The Luminous Interval
On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the birth of Greek author Nikos Kazantzakis, Kazantzakis Publications in collaboration with the Press Office and the Education Office of the Embassy of Greece in the UK present an International Symposium entitled Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957): The Luminous Interval. The Symposium, organized under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports, will take place on February 18, at the Hellenic Centre, in London. It will examine the impact of Kazantzakis’ thought on contemporary Literature, Art and Society, and will feature lectures by the foremost Kazantzakian scholars of our time; it will be held in Greek and English, and will conclude with a special screening of the three-time Academy Award winning film, Zorba the Greek.
- Greece-Europe & Crisis Colloquium
A one-day colloquium which brings together academics, artists and writers, to discuss how contemporary Greek culture is transformed in the current economic and socio-political crisis, is taking place at the Hellenic Centre in London, on February 16, headed Greece/Precarious/ Europe.Participants will attempt to question established orthodoxies and hierarchies, look for new ways of creating a Greek national/transnational imaginary and reassess the relationship between the present and 'the archive' which determines the historical and cultural inheritance of Greece.
The event is convened by Dimitris Papanikolaou (Oxford), Effie Spentzou and Richard Alston (Royal Holloway).
