Addressing the Athens Energy Forum 2013, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras pointed out Greece’s key position on the energy map and its potential to supply Europe with oil and natural gas.

Greece is determined to use to her best advantage the opportunities offered " in close cooperation with our partners [...] seeking all potential alliances and fruitful synergies."

The premier also made special reference of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project agreement signed recently in Athens, and the potential for hydrocarbon exploration in the Aegean. Ahead of an official visit to Turkey next week, Samaras said that both sides have expressed a wish to amicably resolve their differences over hydrocarbon exploration in the Aegean Sea.

However, he noted that while Greece refers to the UN Convention of the Law of the Sea, which she has signed, Turkey refers to it without having done so. The Athens Energy Forum event was co-hosted by the International Herald Tribune and Kathimerini.
