Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos attended on February 1-3, the 49th Munich Security Conference. On the sidelines of the annual gathering, the FM had a meeting with Azerbaijan’s FM Elmar Mammadyarov, during which the two men discussed the TAP pipeline project as well as the extension of bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, tourism and investments.
Indeed, as it was announced by Avramopoulos, an intergovernmental agreement between Greece, Albania and Italy, over the realization of the pipeline will be signed in Athens on February 13, in the presence of Azerbaijani officials.The FM also held meetings with the National Syrian Coalition, Al Khatib and Israel’s deputy PM and Defence minister Ehud Barak and deputy FM Daniel Ayalon. Today, Avramopoulos is meeting in Paris with his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius.
On February 1, the FM carried out an official visit to Estonia, where he held talks with his counterpart, Urmas Paet, with Estonian Prime Minister Andrus Ansip, the Speaker of the country’s Parliament, Ene Ergma, and other officials as well as Metropolitan Stephanos of Tallinn and All Estonia.
He also delivered a speech at the Estonian Foreign Ministry on Greece’s geostrategic role in Southeast Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean.
Avramopoulos’s visit is of great importance given that it is the first such official visit by a Greek FM to this Baltic country.
