On February 15, Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos visited Ankara, where he held meetings with Turkish PM Recep Tayyip Erdogan and  his counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu. The talks between the two FMs focused mostly on preparations for the next session of the Greek-Turkish High-level Cooperation Council which is scheduled for March 4-5 in Istanbul,  in the presence of the two countries’ Prime Ministers.

In a joint press conference, Avramopoulos said that "the success of the upcoming meeting will strengthen our relations and communication even further, and will lay the foundations for cooperation in various sectors that will be beneficial to both Greece and Turkey."

On his part, Davutoglou referred to the upcoming council, which will include agreements in several sectors, as "the beginning of a new era between the two countries that will bring the two peoples closer together, transforming the Aegean into a lake of friendship." The two FMs also discussed the recent developments in the Balkans, the Mediterranean and the Middle East.
