In Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, there are still young people with a fervent interest in Greece. They speak the language fluently and study the country’s traditions. The Modern Greek Language and Culture Centre at the Baku Slavic University was established in 2004, with the support of the Greek Government and the Greek Embassy in Azerbaijan.

The Greek language has been taught, in the country since 1999; three former students are actually teaching in the Centre. In collaboration with the University of Macedonia and the Ionian University, students have the opportunity to study in Greece for a period of 6 months, as part of their three-year course. Some return later, for postgraduate studies.
