Late last night, as soon results were consolidated, party political leaders commented on the Greek people’s choice during yesterday’s general election.

New Democracy leader, Antonis Samaras proposed a national salvation government, comprised of pro-EU parties: "Today, I put forward this open offer to all political forces that accept the country’s European course and the need for a change of the economic policy. I understand people’s anger, but our party will not leave Greece ungoverned."

"The election result in Greece was a strong message for radical change in both Greece and Europe, a message of ‘peaceful revolution’ showing that the people of Europe can not settle for "barbarous memorandums" and bailouts, Coalition of the Radical Left (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras said, after elections results showed SYRIZA polling in second place and almost quadrupling its share of the vote. Tsipras also added that he would try to form a left-wing government.

PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos after noting that the Greek people changed the country’s political landscape, proposed the formation of a 'national unity' government, in which all political forces with a pro-European orientation should take part, in order to have political legitimacy and acceptance abroad.
