Radiology doctor Dimitris Kelekis was one of the two recipients of this year’s prestigious gold medal for interventional radiology awarded by the Society of Interventional Radiation (SIR).

The gold medal is awarded to scientists that have advanced interventional radiology in their countries or field.

According to a SIR announcement, Kelekis is bestowed the award for his prolific contribution to the field literature and his dedication to teaching, and as an "an ardent and outspoken advocate and champion for interventional radiologists and interventional radiology."

Forty-two doctors worldwide have received the prestigious prize until today, only four of which have been from Europe.
