  • Greek Labels Swept 2012 Decanter Awards
The 2012 Decanter World Wine Awards results were officially announced on May 22 at the London International Wine Fair. Greece achieved spectacular results with 72% of all wines that entered this year’s tasting event receiving an award, while six bottles took gold.

At the Awards, now in their eighth year, the tasters went through 14,119 wines from around the globe, awarding three gold medals to Greece's Gaia Wines in the under £10 category, achieving an admirable balance between quality and price.

Three other wineries, Lyrarakis, Estate Argyros and Domaine Gerovassiliou, also took home gold.
  •  NYT: Adventure in New Greek Reds
"Mavrotragano and mandelaria; limnio and vlahiko; and of course, agiorgitiko and xinomavro. I know: it’s all Greek. That’s what is so exciting."

So goes the latest New York Times tribute to Greek red wines, titled Adventure In New Greek Reds, which aims to make Greek red wines as popular as white ones. A wine panel tasted 20 Greek reds from recent vintages, 2006 through 2010 and the verdict was extremely positive.

The panel praised the inflected with herbal notes Greek wines, and described them as "open-minded and experimental, but within their traditions." For the record, the panel’s top three were Argyros Santorini Atlantis, Kir Yannis Naoussa and Biblia Chora.
