Greek weightlifting world and Olympic champion Pyrros Dimas was the only Greek out of a total of 361 athletes who made it into the Underground Olympic Legends Map, issued by the Transport of London in celebration of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games

Albania-born Dimas came to Greece in 1991, with other athletes of Greek descent, who for many years formed the backbone of the Greek weightlifting team. Since 1991, his athletic career skyrocketed: he became a three-time Olympic gold medalist -Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 while at the 2004 Athens Olympics he secured the bronze medal.

Pyrros’ name, which alludes to the fierce ancient King of Epirus and means fire (/pyr/ in ancient Greek) was rightly given to Anerley station on the southbound East London Line, the stop for the borough of Bromley.

In the special London tube Map, each underground line is dedicated to a Summer Olympic discipline or disciplines from basketball to track and field, featuring multiple gold medal winning athletes but also extraordinary athletes - and Pyrros is both!
