Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization, expressed confidence that Greek tourism will record positive levels of growth in 2012, albeit not in the same range as in 2011. Speaking to reporters during a visit in Athens, on March 29, Rifai noted that tourism trends this year will depend mostly on political developments in Greece and particularly on whether the Greek government could facilitate visa issuance for tourists from emerging markets.
On his part, Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Yeroulanos said that easing the entry process for travellers outside the Schengen Treaty would have multiple benefits for Greek tourism, the economy and employment. He also noted that Greece will present its views for changes on the Schengen Treaty, during its presidency of the UNWTO Commission for Europe, next month. - Children Win Rhodes Holidays
Parents may usually have first say on where the family spends the summer holidays, but nine lucky children from Germany will not only choose their summer destination, but take their family on a fully-paid vacation in one of the most popular Greek islands.
The Rhodes Island Tourism Organization has launched a competition inviting children living in Germany to win an island geaway for their family.
The poster for the competition, titled I Want A Family Vacation In Rhodes, is already on display in German buses and trains, while a special website by the same title has also been created. Children and teenagers aged 4-18 may enter the competition simply by creating and uploading a video in which they explain the reasons they want to go to Rhodes Island. To make an informed entry, they can use the material provided in the competition site. The uploaded videos will then earn points by Like votes and nine participants will win a 7-day paid vacation to Rhodes.
