Following intensive talks with EU leaders on the margins of the G20 Summit in Cannes, Greek PM George Papandreou stated that Greeks are proud to be in the Εurozone and a referendum to be held in early December would prove so.

He also stressed that "being part of the eurozone means having many rights and also obligations. We can live up to these obligations. I do believe there is a wide consensus among the Greek people and that's why I want the Greek people to speak." 

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel declared their determination to help Greece, but required that Greece fulfill its commitments.
