In the framework of the European Council on Thursday, Prime Minister George Papandreou stressed that the country is on the right track and despite difficulties, major reforms have been introduced in order to reduce fiscal deficit.

He also said that Greece’s major problem is its lack of credibility in international markets.

Papandreou also highlighted the importance of responsible economic governance within the EU, which topped the meeting’s agenda. He stressed that "what is needed is responsible governance, a strategy for growth, a transition to the green economy – and all this under a comprehensive European Union policy."
