Beginning this month (September), three primary schools in the English city of Oxford will introduce Ancient Greek lessons to their students and another 10 will have a test run.
The initiative is credited to Lorna Robinson, director of the Iris Project, created to promote classical studies in British state schools. Students will be learning the alphabet and basic vocabulary via games and activities, with an emphasis on how ancient Greek concepts associates to the world today.

It has been suggested that basic knowledge of the language bolsters literacy skills, improves students’ English grammar, and enriches their foreign-language abilities. Robinson goes even further: "It may help students understand better the world today."
