Gold in Judo World Champion
Ilias Iliadis became the first Greek ever to win gold medal in the World Judo Championship taking place in Japan, beating home favourite Daiki Nishiyama on Friday’s final. With six wins in six matches, the 2004 gold Olympic medalist returned to “gold” status after two years of absence due to injury. Silver Water Polo Girls
After making history as the first Greek national team to ever reach the final of a European Championship, the women's national water polo team won the silver medal in the European Championship Final that took place in Zagreb on September 10. Although they lost 11-6 to Russia (three-times champion), the Greek players won the first ever medal in the competition and confirmed their status as an international force, after the 2004 Olympic silver medal and 4th rank in the World Championship. Angeliki Gerolymou was named the tournament’s top scorer.

Three Greek crews made it to yesterday’s finals in the European Rowing Championship in Portugal and they all secured medals – two gold and one silver. Alexandra Tsiavou and Christina Giazitzidou retained their title at the women's lightweight double sculls, while Giorgos Tziallas and Yiannis Christou also won gold in the men's pair. The third final of the day brought a silver medal for the men’s four team, featuring Stergios Papachristos, Yiannis Tsilis and brothers Nikos and Apostolos Gontoulas.
