A former executive of the International Monetary Fund, former senior officer of the Fund’s Department of Statistics is chosen as the next Head of the Hellenic Statistics Authority. Andreas Georgiou took up office yesterday and vowed to change the service’s reputation.

"We assume a great responsibility, because we are aware of the fact that the statistics we gather affect the economy," he said during his inaugural speech, adding that he considers the change in the Service’s status (henceforward, the Service operates as an independent authority) as an important step towards its revamp.
