On the occasion of the 5th International Symposium for Sculpture in Natural Materials in Alexandria, Egypt, sculptor Costas Varotsos inaugurated his work called the "Moon of Alexandria" on July 1 at the Library of Alexandria (BA) which will become part of the BA permanent collection.

As the name suggests, the new sculpture is an impressive moon-shaped installation made of glass and steel dedicated to the internationally acclaimed poet Kavafis.

In 2003, Varotsos manufactured a similar artwork called "La Luna" which is exhibited at the Villa Casilina Sculpture Park in Rome in commemoration of the famous director Pier Paolo Pazollini.

Varotsos is a leading artist specialising in sculptures destined for public spaces and his works seek to redefine the equilibrium between space and time.
