DESTE Foundation, in collaboration with the Municipality of Hydra Island - which has granted the foundation its old slaughterhouse – has established the so-called "Slaughterhouse project."

While the space has been recently restored and renovated, it still holds the features and traits of the past, preserving the original elements of its old identity. Since 2009, the slaughterhouse serves as DESTE’s new project space where the Foundation hosts contemporary art exhibitions.

Every year, the space is assigned to a different artist, who is invited to stage a site-specific exhibition. For 2010 –until September 30- DESTE has invited Maurizio Cattelan to undertake the Slaughterhouse project.
