Greece is set to go to the polls again, as a final round of talks on an agreement to form a coalition government broke up yesterday without a deal, after hours of deliberations between Hellenic Republic President and New Democracy (ND) leader Antonis Samaras, Coalition of Radical Left (SYRIZA) leader Alexis Tsipras, PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos, Independent Greeks leader Panos Kammenos and Democratic Left party leader Fotis Kouvelis.

A caretaker government is expected to be appointed today, at a new meeting of political party leaders with the President. The MPs elected on May 6 will be sworn in tomorrow and then the Parliament will be dissolved so that elections can be held either on June 10 or 17.
