Approximately one third -or 33-35% -of Greece’s workforce is currently over-qualified. That is, employees are holding positions that require fewer formal qualifications than those they have, according to presentations by experts at a European Centre Development of Vocational Training (CEDEFOP) seminar, held in Thessaloniki on May 10.
The event, titled Current Trends in Education and Training Policy in European Union: Balancing skills supply and demand - Key competences for lifelong learning -Validation of non-formal and informal learning, also discussed the fact that this trend is increasing during the years of economic crisis. Conversely, roughly 16-18% of Greek workers hold jobs for which they are under-qualified, according to Eurostat figures (2007-2011).
