A project of themed cultural journeys through Greece begins this summer. Geo-routes, a public-private sector collaboration, aims to provide unique life-experiences in off-the beaten track destinations in Greece, combined with insight into the cultural heritage and history of each region. The project had two main pillars: Geo-routes covers mainland Greece, while Aegean-routes regard different aspects of the Greek islands.
Every expedition is thematically designed to combine the beauty of the natural environment with themed cultural and historical tours of each particular area.
The thematic journeys offer accommodation and dining, as well as exclusive guided tours, with the use of private transport for flexibility. A total of fourteen expeditions will take place in 2012. The first geo-routes expedition, titled The Spartan Legacy, starts on May 17, while thematic day-trips in Athens are available as well. The project is held under the auspices of Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO.
For example, the Thrace expedition takes the visitors to some of the region’s most treasured spots, while tracing the footsteps of Alexander the Great’s warriors.
